Linux Mint is one of the more popular Linux Operating Systems out there. This OS comes loaded with a variety of popular software that will allow you to get started immediately after installation. Linux Mint has never been easier to use no matter what desktop you choose, this tutorial will walk you through all the steps of installation and help you to get started in minutes, the new interface will allow you to customize your installation and setup your system in several ways, from full disk encryption to an encrypted user space or a simple installation. There are a few variations of Linux Mint available for download that will fit most user needs, with a few desktops to choose from giving you a complete and fully customizable operating system that is user-friendly and well documented.
Installing Linux Mint
1.) Download ISO.
Visit the info page for Linux Mint which contains links to the downloads, documentation and forums.
2.) Create Install Media.
Depending on the age of your machine you may have several options on how to create the installation media, aether a bootable disk or a bootable thumb drive. After downloading the ISO file simply burn it to a disk or create your USB thumb drive and insert it into the computer.
3.) Boot Installation Media.
Note: You may be required to specify the boot order of your machines CMOS or BIOS. Allowing your machine to boot to your install media.
4.) Begin Installation.
Once your system has fully loaded the live desktop you have the options to explore the distribution a bit before you actually install it on your computer, after you are finished exploring click on the Install icon on the live desktop to begin the installation.
5.) Select Language.
Choose your language from the list on the left and click continue.
6.) Prepare to Install.
Here you have the option to install third-party software that will improve your user experience.
7.) Installation Type.
Here you have a few options for how you install the distribution. for this walk through we will be installing as a stand alone system by choosing the first option, erasing the hard drive and installing. Click Install Now.
